This post on Joe McNally’s blog is a lot of fun to read.  He gives 3 shots and explains how he lights them up along with the napkin sketches he did to set do the schematic design.

  • leader or martyr?

I don’t remember the episode, but a funny little quote:

If you’re one step ahead of the crowd you’re a leader, if you’re two steps ahead you’re a martyr.

  • Pankun & James

This Japanese show is super cute, with Pankun and James – a chimp and his dog – doing human things.  There are Chinese dubs (both from Taiwan and Hong Kong) and one with udon was a lot of fun even even though James, the dog, doesn’t play a role in that one.  Another one with both of them doing sit ups was also quite amusing.

It was kind of blah in color, but taking it to black and white gave it a stronger pattern and a bit more visual interest.

  • Welcome

You know you’re in Texas when…

You are at an photo critique and when a picture of two bullets come up in a slide show, the a couple audience members debate which caliber they were.

I think they settled on “22 longs”.  In any case, it was a lot of fun.  I didn’t bring any work, but it started with a lecture by a copyright lawyer about best practices in maintaining one’s rights.   After that, was an hour of open critique.  There about 12 of us and each person had 7 minutes to show their work/get critique and it was on to the next one.  There was some interesting stuff, and some not so interesting stuff, but that’s they way it goes.  People were very nice but constructive.

A fun post of all kinds of different views of the future of space.  I really miss the old graphics — but maybe that’s because we get the past in a very condensed form (only the memorable graphics get repeated) whereas the present is very banal since we get it ALL.

  • Mao Mao in Alhambra

I don’t know what’s happened to the cat, its been more than a few years since we last saw him. But he was a regular visitor to my grandparent’s house for a couple years. I think they used to give him leftovers.

Art Deco Buildings: Montreux Flats, Cape Town.

I really liked the ones shown on this blog posting.  Stairs and railing design can get really annoy cause they are the one point where things are all visible and you’ve got all these angles running into each other.  This view from the hallway was particularly compelling – the stairwell views are not as great.
